Life is full of possibilities and opportunities, isn’t it? Sometimes they spark excitement at the thought of what could be waiting for us round the corner. But if you’re like me, you’ve encountered a bit of hesitation or fear when you’re faced with the unknown.
It’s interesting how I can let my mind run ahead. I imagine all sorts of scary scenarios, even when what’s in front of me seems like a positive thing, and I let these fears keep me from stepping out to follow God’s leading. I lock myself in a prison of what-ifs and maybes, and I waste time and energy wondering what could go wrong instead of moving forward to discover what God has for me.
So what should you do when you’re stuck the what-if spiral? There’s one reminder that pulls me out of the spin and gets me headed in the right direction. I remember that I’m not on my own. God is on my side and He will give me everything I need to do what He’s called me to do, exactly when I need it. And what I don’t need is to know it all ahead of time.
I love the way The Message version puts Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:34: Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
If you’re stalling out on your next steps and letting uncertainty hold you hostage, let me encourage you. You can move forward because you’re not moving alone, and the One who is with you already knows the road.
