Learning to Listen and Obey

Posted by Meryl George

In Pastor Craig’s message this past weekend, he talked about jotting down all the times that the Holy Spirit prompts us so we have an understanding of whether we’re led by the Spirit. When we’re led by the Spirit and we hear His voice, we won’t give in to the desires of the flesh.

Truth be told, I’ve been wondering, “When was the last time the Holy Spirit prompted me?” It’s so easy to go about the day and not be keenly aware of the small stirrings in our hearts and minds which lead us to do or say something.

The message was a great reminder of two words that Alan and I have taught our kids since they were tiny – “listen and obey.” Every time they disobey or stall in obeying we ask them the dreaded question, “What are your two words?” And they softly (and sometimes grudgingly) whisper, “Listen and obey.”

If only I would take my own lesson and practice it when it comes to my relationship with God! He is our guide and our teacher, wanting only the best for us – if we would only listen and obey.

I don’t know about you but I desperately need to hear God everyday – whether it’s to be refreshed, keep calm, gain perspective, or receive answers. I believe he always has something to say to us, so I encourage you to join me this Thursday, August 27 at our Annual Sisters Event for an amazing time with our very own Amy Groeschel. It will be an incredible time to connect with other women and hear what God has to say. Trust me, you won’t want to miss it!

I’ll see you there!
