Remember that time when you were at home and it seemed like everyone was in a bad mood? You had a decision at that point, and you did one of two things: you let the environment affect you, or you affected the environment.
Putting my kids to bed can often be a battle. Sometimes I literally have to drag them to their room. I spend so much energy, emotionally and physically, that I am drained and can barely focus on investing in my relationship with my wife. I usually blame the kids’ behavior for my poor attitude, but that excuse isn’t good enough. I shouldn’t let the environment drag me down when there is so much I have to be enthusiastic about.
I have a wife. I have kids. My kids have beds. I have ice cream in the freezer—in multiple flavors! I have a lot going for me. Not only that, I have been forgiven of every sin I have ever committed and every sin I am going to commit. God is with me and will never leave me. I am going to enjoy eternity in paradise with Jesus forever. I really do have a lot going for me! I don’t want to let petty things diminish my enthusiasm about what God has given me. I want to be a positive influence on the world around me.
